Another fast-casual Mexican food restaurant chain has opened a location in Fort Worth. Touting housemade tortillas and sauces, Costa Vida Fresh Mexican Grill, a 10-year-old chain out of Utah, is now open at the Alliance Town Center.

It’s a cut above similar fast-casual Mexican restos like Chipotle and Freebird’s. Sauces, such as mango-pineapple and honey-habanero salsas and cilantro vinaigrette, are made on site, as are the corn, wheat and flour tortillas, prepared as you watch and wait in line.

The menu consists of tacos, quesadillas, salads, enchiladas, nachos, bowls and large burritos, made with your choice of sweet pork, steak, chicken, mahi mahi or shrimp glazed in a honey-butter sauce. You can order each a la carte or with rice and beans. Cilantro lime rice is light as a feather but still flavorful. There are two kinds of beans – traditional refried beans and black beans.

Costa Vida’s signature item is raspberry chipotle chicken, chunks of grilled chicken doused in a thin sauce that strikes a perfect balance between sweet and heat.

The atmosphere is more like Taco Cabana, less Fuzzy’s/Freebird’s. With a kid’s menu and big patio, it’s great for little ones. Because the food is a little on the sweeter side, my pair of picky eaters loved it.

9530 Feather Grass Lane, 817-750-1775. Sun-Thur 11am-9pm; Fri-Sat 11am-10pm.
