Curly’s Frozen Custard on Camp Bowie celebrated this week’s rebirth of the Twinkie by introducing the ultimate in Twinkie indulgence – a Twinkie sundae.

It’s basically a Twinkie in a hot fudge sundae. They take a whole Twinkie and tear it into two pieces. One piece is placed at the bottom of the cup, then topped with hot fudge, a scoop of vanilla frozen custard, whipped cream, chopped nuts and a cherry. The other half is wedged into the side of the cup.

By the time I reached the bottom of the cup, the submerged Twinkie had turned to mush. I couldn’t taste the cake or cream filling.

Twinkie sundaes are nothing new, so I was hoping for a more creative presentation. Frying the Twinkie would have been a good idea, too. It would have given the Twinkie some body and crunch.

This isn’t one of Curly’s stronger desserts, but Twinkie aficionados may enjoy, at least the ones that aren’t bummed about the new “healthier” Twinkies.
