From the restaurant family that brought us acclaimed Italian restaurant Piola comes Red Door Bistro. The small restaurant with about a dozen tables is located inside a strip mall, but owner Donna Albanese has done a good job of creating a warm and personable atmosphere. With concrete floors, dark wood furniture, an open kitchen and extensive wine list (below, along with full menu), it definitely doesn’t feel like a strip mall restaurant.
Donna and her chef husband Bobby have crafted an across-the-board menu that encompasses several styles, from American to Mediterranean. Appetizers include a cheeseboard, featuring Grand Cru Gryuere Reserve and Buttermilk Blue Affinee, and chicken and mozzarella flatbread. The savory beignets, served with honey, feta cheese and an olive mix, are a must.
Entrees include grass-fed tenderloin, honey chipotle quail and a seared salmon salad. There are several chicken options, including the excellent chicken roulade, stuffed with ricotta, mushrooms and shallots, and served in a pool of red pepper sauce with pesto coucous.
There are also more playful items on the menu, including a fried catfish sandwich, an Angus burger and for dessert, lemon lady finger cake. It’s a long way from Piola but good for them for branching out.
